Storm Inlets & Outlets
Atlantic offers the customer a wide range of accessories for precast products to speed field construction and to improve over-all quality.
The photo depicts a 48″ diameter manhole with a Dura-Plate 100 PVC Interior Liner, providing corrosion resistance. Pipe to manhole seals are achieved with rubber A-Lok gaskets and the cover is sealed from infiltration by Water-Lok. The joints are sealed with a combination of Butyl Rubber and a D-Lok Rubber gasket. The outside of the manhole has been coated with an Epoxy Paint. Handling is safely achieved by use of Key-Lok lift pins on the outside of each manhole section. A manhole of this quality is becoming more and more commonly specified as our concern for the environment and longevity of Waste Water Systems grow.
Outlined below is a brief description of some of the many accessories available today. Please contact us for more detailed information and to provide us the opportunity to work closely with you.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Bolt Slots
Bolt Slot inserts are cast into a top slab or cone for the purpose of anchoring the cast iron frame to the structure. They are specified in one or two pair for each frame. Traditional anchoring systems require precise positioning to assure assembly. Bolts Slots allow more flexibility in that they allow the anchor bolt to slide in or away from the center as much as 3″.
Coatings
Two component, epoxy, coatings are applied at the plant, when specified.
Interior: “Ceramic White” epoxy for high performance, high build, and visibility within completed structure
Exterior: “Enviro-Green” epoxy for high performance, high build, and aesthetically pleasing
Dura-Plate 100 PVC Liner
The Dura-Plate 100 is a interior lining for precast concrete structures which combines the immense structural strength and integrity of reinforced concrete with the chemical resistance of polyvinyl chloride. The ribbed liner is integrally cast on to the interior surface of the concrete structure at time of manufacture. A structure lined with Dura-Plate 100 is assured a long service life under severe conditions, being resistant to H2S, acids, alkalis, and salts which attack sewer systems.
Grade Ring
Grade Rings provide a means to adjust the casting to meet finish grade elevation. They are available for 24″ and 30″ diameter manhole openings and common rectangular DOT inlets. They are 2, 3, 4 or 6″ thick and stacked to the desired thickness. The contractor would lay each coarse in a bed of mortar or suitable joint material.
Handling
Safe handling of precast sections is achieved by use of several means:
Inserts designed to accept Key-Lok Lift Pins are cast into the walls of 48 and 60″ diameter manholes. Larger manholes are lifted with tapered pins and lift loops in the base.
Swift lift and threaded inserts are also used where applicable.
Joint Seals
D-Lok Rubber Gasket for 48″ and 60″ diameter sanitary manholes (O-Ring for larger manholes). Compression design gasket manufactured in accordance with ASTM C-443 titled, “Joints for Circular Concrete Sewer and Culvert Pipe, Using Rubber Gaskets”. Butyl Rubber for Round and Rectangular structures. Seal designed to meet requirements of ASTM C-990 titled, “Joints for Concrete Pipe, Manholes, Precast Box Sections Using Preformed Flexible Joint Sealants”. Neoprene (1″x3/4″) Gaskets are used to seal Box Culvert Joints.
Outside Drop Manhole
Often, an outside drop pipe is specified when the influent line is greater than 2′ above the effluent line in a manhole. This is to minimize turbulence within the structure. Atlantic can provide a manhole base section, with a 90 degree vertical elbow, monolithically, cast in. The elbow’s invert is 1″ above the effluent elevation. The contractor provides all necessary piping to bring the line up to the influent elevation with a tee projecting, once again, into the manhole to provide clean-out. The vertical piping is protected by precast concrete collars stacked to the appropriate height.
Pipe to Manhole Connectors
Flexible connectors are designed to produce a positive watertight connection for pipes entering precast manholes and other concrete structures.
A-Lok and A-Lok X-CEL
Connectors are cast in concrete at time of manufacture. They function on pure compression, making field installation quick and easy. A watertight connection is maintained with a 10 degree omnidirectional deflection. Available for pipes from 4″ through 84″ inside diameter. The gaskets meet all material and performance requirements of ASTM C923 titled, “Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures and Pipes”.
Z-Lok
Connectors are cast in concrete at time of manufacture and clamped onto the outside of the pipe at time of installation. A watertight connection is maintained with a 25 degree omnidirectional deflection. Available for pipes from 1.25″ through 21.25″ outside diameter. The gaskets are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ASTM C923 titled, “Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures and Pipes”.
G3 Boot System
Connectors provide a rubber connection for a cored or preformed hole. An expansion ring is expanded within the gasket to seal it to the concrete structure. The pipe can then be inserted and clamped. A watertight connection is maintained with a 15 degree omni-directional deflection. Available for pipes from 3.50″ through 13.5″ outside diameter. The gaskets are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ASTM C923 titled, “Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures and Pipes”.
A-Lok STM – Connector for Storm Systems
A flexible gasket that is designed to provide a soil-tight, as well as, watertight connection for round and elliptical pipe entering precast concrete structures. Specifically designed for application where a high performance sanitary connector is not necessary. The gasket functions on pure compression will withstand 6 psi. of hydrostatic pressure (equivalent to 13.8 ft of depth).
Precast Channels
Channels can be cast, at the plant, in round manholes, square structures, and box culverts. Channels provide laminar flow of liquids through our structure. A traditional manhole channel is formed up to the centerline of the pipe. A bench is formed with a pitch of 1:12 toward the channel. “Low flow” and “Fish” channels can be cast into box culverts as would be indicated on contract documents.
Rungs
Manhole access is often required by use of rungs. Atlantic offers two types of rungs installed at the plant. Rungs are typically set at 12″ centers running the entire vertical height of manhole.
Polypropylene Rungs:
Copolymer Polypropylene Plastic, 1/2″ Grade 60 steel reinforced
Meet OSHA requirements
Teeth and side cleats provide safe tread
Aluminum Rungs:
Plastic step insert prevents corrosive action between concrete and aluminum
Type 6061-T6 Aluminum
Meet OSHA requirements
Grooves and Drop front provide safe tread
Safety Platforms
Safety Platforms are often specified for deep manholes. Atlantic will provide the customer with a precast concrete slab for use between riser sections at a specified depth. This 12″ thick slab has a non-skid, broom finish with a 30″ diameter opening. Traditionally, the opening is set 180 degrees from the opening above to provide a landing. 3 rungs are provided above the safety slab opening, to facilitate ingress and egress. The rungs then run down to the bench below.
Water-Lok
Water-Lok is designed for the purpose of producing a flexible, corrosion resistant, watertight connection between castings and precast concrete cones or flat tops. They provide for grade adjustment between 0 and 14″.
